VISUAL INTELLIGENCE

The second intelligence in our series from Professor Howard Gardner’s ‘multiple intelligence’ model; the first one was Linguistic intelligence and can be found further down the blog list. Multiple Intelligence can form part of your accelerated learning tool kit.

Thinks in pictures
Creates mental images
Uses metaphor
Has sense of gestalt (‘the whole picture’)
Likes art, drawing, painting, sculpting
Easily reads maps, charts, diagrams
Remembers with pictures
Has good colour sense
Uses all senses for imaging

Painters
Sculptors
Navigators
Chess players
Naturalists
Theoretical physicists
Strategists

Typical statements:
“I can see clear visual images when I close my eyes” 
“I’m sensitive to colour” 
“I have a camera or camcorder that I use to record what I see around me”

In your training delivery incorporate such exercises as:
Watch videos or create your own
Do visualisation activities
Use mind mapping
Use peripheral stimuli
Use mime
Change places in the room to gain a different perspective
Draw diagrams, maps
Use computer graphics
Create doodles, symbols
Use pictures to learn
Highlight with colour
Integrate art
